Is Eating Carrots Really Good For Your Eyes?
Actually, NO. You'd probably be disappointed to know that what your mother told you about carrots is just an urban legend. Lack of Vitamin A (contained in carrots) can cause poor vision, which can be repaired by adding more Vitamin A to the diet. However, carrots cannot make your normal vision better. The misconception can be traced back to World War II, when British gunners lead the Germans to believe that they managed to shoot down German planes in the dark because of their superior eyesight as a result of consuming many carrots. The truth behind their success was actually the discovery of radar technologies.

Hiccups
It has certainly happened to you too, but do you know why we hiccup? Hiccups are sudden contractions of the powerful muscle in your chest responsible for inhaling and exhaling air (the diaphragm), caused by an internal irritation. These contractions cause air to enter abruptly but at this time the air passage to your lungs is closed by a little flap called the epiglottis. So, air hits this closed passage and produces the 'bump' feeling of the hiccup. Hiccups can usually be cured by breathing deeply or holding your breath but there are known cases when people continued to hiccup for entire decades!
